“International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036)”

“International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036)”

Peace is an invaluable blessing and the foundation of the sustainable development of every state and society. In today’s world, which faces armed conflicts, security threats, terrorism, extremism, climate change, and other global challenges, strengthening peace and mutual understanding among nations has become one of the most important priorities of the international community. The Republic of Tajikistan, as a peace-loving country and an active initiator of international initiatives, consistently makes a valuable contribution to strengthening peace, stability, and constructive cooperation.

On 25 June 2026, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution entitled “International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036)” with the support of its Member States. This important initiative was proposed by the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, and has been recognized as a significant international step toward promoting a culture of peace and strengthening friendly relations among states.

The main objective of the International Decade is to strengthen peace, prevent conflicts, promote a culture of dialogue, tolerance, respect for human rights and freedoms, and enhance cooperation among states and generations. The initiative calls upon the international community to join efforts in preserving lasting peace, achieving sustainable development, and ensuring a dignified life for present and future generations.

In his congratulatory message on the adoption of the resolution, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of war.

As the Leader of the Nation stated:

“Peace is a culture. Peace is a responsibility. Peace is respect for human dignity. Peace is the guarantee of justice and equal opportunities for all humanity.”

These words reflect the profound significance of peace as a universal human value. Genuine peace can only be lasting when justice, mutual understanding, respect for human dignity, and equal opportunities for all are ensured within society.

The initiative “International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations” is a logical continuation of the peace-oriented policy of the Republic of Tajikistan. Previously, Tajikistan gained broad international recognition through its global initiatives on water resources, sustainable development, and glacier preservation. The country’s new proposal once again demonstrates that Tajikistan plays an active role in addressing major global challenges.

Within the framework of this Decade, special attention will be devoted to educating and empowering children and young people. The younger generation should be brought up in the spirit of patriotism, respect for the rule of law, tolerance, a culture of peace, and civic responsibility. At the same time, the development of science and education, the promotion of modern technologies, digitalization, and artificial intelligence are of great importance in preparing young people for the demands of the modern world.

The adoption of this resolution demonstrates that the international community supports Tajikistan’s initiative and the peace-oriented policy of the Leader of the Nation. As part of the implementation of the Decade, international conferences, scientific, cultural, and educational programmes, as well as expanded cooperation among countries, are planned. Tajikistan intends to host a High-Level International Conference in Dushanbe in 2027, dedicated to the official launch of the International Decade.

In conclusion, the “International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036)” is an important and forward-looking initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan, proposed by the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon. This initiative is of great importance for strengthening global peace and stability, promoting a culture of dialogue, respecting human rights, fostering solidarity among nations, and ensuring a dignified life for present and future generations.

Preserving peace is the responsibility of every individual. Only through mutual respect, cooperation, tolerance, and shared responsibility can we build a peaceful, secure world and a brighter future for generations to come.
